Felony Friday: Tulsa Officer Accused Of Shooting Daughter’s Boyfriend

For more than a year the Felony Friday feature has been a weekly mainstay on the pages of our humble little website. During this time I have covered my fair share of atrocious violations of individual rights, but today’s story out of Tulsa is by far the worst to date. I can say with certainty that this is the most despicable, twisted act of unprovoked violence that I have seen committed by a police officer in a long time. Before we delve into the details surrounding the circumstances that resulted in a young man being gunned down, please keep in mind that the police officers referenced in this article have not yet been charged (as of publishing time), but they have been arrested in connection with the murder. The husband and wife police officers, Shannon and Gina Kepler, were booked into the Tulsa jail. Shannon, fifty-four, a twenty-four year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department, was booked on first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill complaint. His wife Gina, forty-eight, also a Tulsa police officer, was booked on an accessory to murder complaint. The chain of events that ended in bloodshed seemingly began, at least with the information available at this moment, when the Kepler’s had kicked their daughter Lisa out of their home, due to poor “life decisions” she had made. They dropped her off at the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless. It was there where Lisa Kepler met Jeremy Lake. The two hit it off and started dating. Lake offered to let her live with himself and his aunt. Lisa took Lake up on the offer and moved in.This set the table for the incredibly senseless killing that occurred within a week of Lisa Kepler moving in with Jeremy Lake.Tulsa World reported on the details of the murder:

Lisa Kepler and Lake were walking back from Guthrie Green and were in the street in front of their home when a black SUV pulled up, and Shannon Kepler stepped out.Lisa Kepler said her father shouted at her and that as Lake attempted to introduce himself, Shannon Kepler shot Lake.Lisa Kepler said she had attempted to stop the shooting but then ran and hid behind a large rose bush in the front yard as her father fired a shot at her that missed. Lisa Kepler said she told authorities it was her dad who was the triggerman."I'm not scared of my dad," she said, in tears and openly wondering why he would shoot someone he didn't know.Josh Mills, 23, a friend of Lake's, said he was also at the scene during the shooting. He said Shannon Kepler also fired a shot at Lake's 13-year-old brother, who was sitting on the front porch. The bullet ricocheted and grazed the boy in the upper arm, Mills said.Mills said he had paramedic training and tried to stem Lake's bleeding and locate the bullet wounds. Mills said it appeared Lake had been shot in the chest and neck from about 3-feet away. Mills and Lake hadn't known each other long but had become close.

Normally, I would conclude an edition of Felony Friday such as this with a plea to reexamine the way security is provided, calling into question the almost universally accepted coercively funded police model. Not this time. I don’ think the fact that the police officers in this case were consumers of tax dollars had a role in this murder. I could be wrong. The preliminary evidence seems to show that Shannon Kepler was not sane at the time of the murder. He very well could have been completely out of his mind. Maybe fueled by rage over losing his daughter, or perhaps some other event drove him nuts. A person would have to be a psychopath to kill a stranger at point-blank range, fire at their own daughter, and then fire at a thirteen-year-old. This doesn’t appear to be an example of a police officer using a badge to elevate himself over the rest of society. Even a badge doesn’t blind people to cold-blooded murder. Only a psychopath wouldn’t recognize that.Tragedies such as this occur far too often all over this country. The difference between this bloodshed and the rest is the job title of the perpetrators. The couple that is in a jail cell for allegedly committing murder had previously been tasked with protecting the public for the past twenty years. That is the only reason why mainstream source pick-up this news. If cops weren’t involved in this story it wouldn’t be news. I find it hard to believe that these officers were insane during twenty years of service on the police force. Something happened that caused, at least the husband, to snap.People are killed every day for similarly irrational reasons as the individual put to a senseless death in this story. Normally, they don’t make their way on to the pages of mainstream news sites because the violence was not openly perpetrated by husband and wife police officers. What does this all mean? The world can be a crazy place. We talk a lot about a more free society that embraces liberty being a more rational place. This doesn’t mean that it would be a perfect place. Evil would still exist and senseless killings like the one above would surely still occur. But at least you would be free to make your own destiny and you would not be forced to obey contracts that you have not consented.Check out our past editions of Felony Friday! The Lions of Liberty are on Twitter, Facebook & Google+Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon!
