2A Watch: Connecticut Homeowner Shoots Armed Robbers During Home Invasion
Connecticut is not necessarily known as a state that is friendly to those who value the right to bear arms. In a Felony Friday feature from February 2014, I wrote about a new law in the state. The shock appeal from that story was derived from the sheer number of potential “criminals” that enforcement of the law would have created overnight. If the aforementioned gun-control law was enforced to the letter of the law, then it would have created over a quarter million felons overnight. The law had the potential to create so many “criminals” by targeting individuals with unregistered “assault” weapons or “large capacity” magazines (more than 10 rounds) and provided four options to reconcile with the state:
- Render the assault weapon or large capacity magazine permanently inoperable
- Sell the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to a licensed gun dealer
- Remove the assault weapon or large capacity magazine from the state
- Make arrangements to relinquish the assault weapon or large capacity magazine to a police department or to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection
With all of this anti-gun sentiment in the state, it is truly refreshing to hear news reports that prove there are still people in Connecticut who value their right to bear arms and have used this right to defend life.A news report from last Saturday about a man who used his legally licensed firearm to defend himself and his family from two gun-wielding thugs hopefully reminds individuals in Connecticut, and throughout the United States, that carrying a concealed weapon can be the difference between living and dying.NBC Connecticut provided coverage on the heroic actions of one that had the potential to end very badly for the victims.
Two robbers broke into a home at 109 Treadeau Street while a woman and child were home. Both robbers were wielding at least one gun. The robbers pointed a gun at the male homeowner as he was returning home after closing up shop at the mini mart on Franklin and South streets. The homeowner, who has a legal permit to carry a pistol, was already armed at the time of the home invasion and shot the robbers multiple times. He shot one of them in the arm and chest and the other in the head, groin and leg.
The incident was originally called in to police as a shooting just before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Both robbers were taken to Hartford Hospital to be treated for critical injuries. The suspects are from Lawrence, Massachusetts, police said. They're expected to recover.
Let’s get one thing straight. The gun isn’t the hero in this situation, just as the gun is not the villain in a murderous rampage. This Hartford man is the hero. The gun was the tool that assisted in the heroics and served to level the playing field between the victim and the armed robbers.Imagine if this man didn’t go through the rigorous process of obtaining a concealed carry permit in the state of Connecticut. This story would have likely had a tragic outcome.Take a cue from this story if you live in a state where laws exist that infringe upon the right to bear arms. Instead of only crying or whining about the immoral laws, make sure to also exercise your gun rights to the fullest extent of the law. Make sure you’re doing everything in your power to put yourself in a situation where you have the tools necessary to protect your family if you ever have to face the unfortunate horror of coming face to face with a madman who seeks to harm the ones you love.Check out previous editions of Second Amendment Watch! The Lions of Liberty are on Twitter, Facebook & Google+Check out our YouTube Channel!Receive access to ALL of our EXCLUSIVE bonus audio content – including “Conspiracy Corner”, “Degenerate Gamblers” and the “League of Liberty Podcast” by joining the Lions of Liberty Pride and supporting us on Patreon!Join our private Facebook Group: The Lions of Liberty Forum
